&lt;p&gt;The contest sounds like it could bear wondrous fruit, and what&#039;s more, if it doesn&#039;t, you&#039;re no worse off than you are now. You yourself can compete by tweaking your own mixes until you hear something better come along.
I myself don&#039;t think the current mixes are so bad, but I&#039;m no expert, and I feel the intuitive truth in the priority of mixing over mastering; mastering seems like it&#039;s for playback on the perfect sound system, whereas an inferior mix is noticeable even when I&#039;m cranking my awful ipod buds to drown out the Q train.&lt;/p&gt;
