Taking Up The Gauntlet

About a year ago, the people at my place of work got together and did a pretty cool thing: they put together a CD of artists who work there, had it professionally mastered and produced, and gave them away for free by the bushload. Today, I have found out that they’re doing it again.
I have until October 31st to submit the hottest track, the most beautiful song, the most spaced-out shit known to mankind. If We Were is too long, the hip-hop I’ve been doing recently is too offensive – perhaps I’ll have to start from scratch.
I find myself wondering if I am up to the challenge. But I cannot pass up the chance to have my track distributed for free to thousands of hip connected New Yorkers. So I guess I’m gonna have to be…

Is If We Were too long? Eli had a really long song on the original CD. You should talk to PSS if you haven’t already.

Yeah, I talked to him. Basically, I don’t want to put all my eggs in a 7-minute basket, cause that’s definitely a strike against me in the choosing process. Also, I think getting that song done in time might be a little ambitious, given my lack of production skills coupled with my extremely high standards.
Oh, and Eli’s really long song (6:02) was even shorter than If We Were, which will probably clock in at about 7 minutes when it’s done…

How is your hip-hop too offensive? Who could possibly be offended by Lin rhyming? He’s no Dirt McGirt, neither is he Big Baby Jesus. Rather he is more like a cuddly version of LL Cool J. Definitely safe for those progressive customers, and mothers all across America in fact.

It’s the little things – mention of “smoking humble seeds,” saying “Fuck Loretta,” shit like that. They want the CD to be relatively clean-cut. Although now that I think about it, the aforementioned long song from the last CD had the word “bong” right in the title.
Anyway, I’d like whatever I submit to be totally my shit. I gotta let the public know.

What fucking hip hop, goddamn Arthur, share the love. I’ve never heard any of this shit, and that’s straight up fucked. That’s it, Carlos was right!! We’re recording a duo together for the TekNotes CD. We’ll call it, ‘Bring it in”, or “fuck you I’ve got better things to be doin’ than talking ’bout unix to you, mother fucker!”, or simply “Where’s HE at now.” It’d be the sensation of the season, singular pinpoint of concise, direct art, A FUCKING TOUR DE FORCE!!!

Eli, don’t feel slighted. None of it’s done – the only thing most people have heard is the one you tried to download that for some reason didn’t work. But I’ll play you some works in progress on Tuesday….
